Festival Makers

The Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival returns in 2018 and will run over four days, aiming to promote Huddersfield as a vibrant town and raise the profile of local and regional businesses.

Being organised by Huddersfield Live, 2018 promises to build on the success of previous years while balancing the blend of experience with the dash of new changes!

What is the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival?

Our festival is the largest of its kind in the UK and last year attracted over 120,000 people over four days.

Now in its 18th year, we attract visitors from all over the world and expect this time around to be no different!

The event this year will take place on Thursday 2nd August until Sunday 5th August and will feature;

Why do you need volunteers?

To help with the smooth running of the event we require a number of volunteers to take varied roles.  While we have a number of paid contractors – we wouldn’t be able to stage such an event without the generous support of the people of Huddersfield (and beyond!)

What do you need me to do?

As you can see from the different roles below, we have something for everyone!

Supervisors

Zone Supervisors are responsible for their ‘zone’ in the festival.  This means taking care of the vendors, other Festival Makers assigned to the same zone, as well as the public attending.  You will be fully assisted by the Festival Maker Coordinator and the outside agencies available to us over the event.

Area Stewards

Area Stewards work closely with Zone Supervisors and assist them in the safe running of their assigned zone with general ‘stewarding duties’ such as visitor engagement, litter picking, assisting site management etc – it will be fun and varied, we promise you!

Kids Zone Team

Responsible for the smooth running of the Kids Zone you will be assigned to coordinate the children’s entertainment

Radio Operator

Hanging out in Event Control, it is your job to monitor the radio traffic and note down important information in the Radio log. You’ll need to have a keen ear and be confident using a radio (we can show you how!).

Runner

Essential for any event and organisation is communication, and we are no different.  The Runner will be based in the Event Control and will be responsible for ‘fetch and carry’ throughout your shift.  A fun, varied and energetic post!

Photographer

We’re on the hunt for someone who fancies the mega important role of Official Photographer.  Capturing the atmosphere, visitors and staff in the perfect light is a must.  Ideal for Photography students looking for experience in the field.

How much time can I give?

As much or as little as you like!  Our shifts are broken into 5-hour blocks, so you can only give enough time for one shift, or would like to join us for 5 full days – you are more than welcome to!

When is the festival?

The 18th Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival will be on Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th August 2017.

Thursday: 11am-9pm
Friday: 10am-10pm
Saturday: 10am-10pm
Sunday: 10.30am-5.30pm

Do I get paid?

Unfortunately, the positions are unpaid – but we can keep you fed, watered, give you access to the secret staff toilets and we have ‘Festival Maker Survival Kits’ made up ready to go.

Any other perks?

For those Festival Makers who are with us all day, we can give a staff parking pass so you don’t need to worry about parking!

Do I get briefed?

You do!  We have a pre event briefing.

Any other important info?

In line with other similar scale events, we ask that you pay a £10 deposit as a token of your commitment if you are selected.  It show’s that you will be turning up and also means we won’t be out of pocket on your survival pack in the event you don’t turn up.  It’s only fair.  We’ll hit the refund button as soon as your shift is complete!
